Ashdown Golf
Ashdown Golf was founded to provide a comprehensive golf center. We are devoted to creating golfing excellence. Ashdown Golf, formally Wheatley Golf, has a 20 year pedigree in building precision custom golf clubs.

Club Fitting System
At Ashdown Golf, we are leading the golf industry with our club fitting system. While others hand you a bag of clubs and tell you to choose the one that feels best, we can tell you in less than 30 minutes exactly what specifications you need in your equipment.

Professional Fit
We can professionally fit you in exactly the right set of golf clubs for your game. We'll measure everything from hand strength to centrifugal force (swing speed), 16 variables in all. We'll show you which shaft is right for you, and you'll hit balls with clubs that make the choice obvious.

We have a foolproof system that is being imitated yet not equaled. And it's the way touring pros have achieved the most out of their equipment for years. Now you can have the same professional fit whether you are an 82 year old woman or a 300 pound football player with extraordinary strength.

Ashdown and KZG Custom Clubs
Ashdown Golf offers two lines of custom clubs. The Ashdown Line of investment cast clubs are designed by Ashdown Golf. The KZG line of forged irons is for the golfer who desires a forged club with a traditional blade, a thin top line, and minimal offset. Both lines offer superb clubs for the new golfer or competitive player.

Golf Lessons
Our golf lessons educate players through measurable, computer based, sequential sessions. Each lesson gives the player an understanding of their swing, and with the help of visual aids and effective drills, enables the player to experience true game improvement. Ashdown also provides golf seminars, tailored for corporate events.

John Wheatley
John Wheatley, founder of Ashdown Golf and a co-founder of Brampton Technology Ltd., passed away on 11/25/02. John, a resident of Newington, CT., was a long time custom club maker in the Northeast. A technical engineer by training, he moved to the USA from England over 35 years ago, and had been involved in club making, club fitting and teaching ever since he arrived. In addition to his club making and Brampton, John was instrumental in the early days of the PCS (Professional Clubmakers Society), and served as a tour representative on the PGA, LPGA and Senior PGA Professional Golf Tours for Apollo Golf Shafts. John will be missed by his family, friends and all of those he came into contact with during his life.

About Ashdown

Shaun Wheatley, was born in England and emigrated to the U.S. with his family in 1977. Shaun played Junior golf in both England and America. Later he was a member of the nationally recognized NCAA collegiate golf program at Central Connecticut State University. After graduating with a degree in marketing, he continued play at both local and regional tournaments. Often playing as Connecticut's representative, Shaun was the winner of several exciting tournaments here in New England.

In 1979 Shaun began working with his father, repairing wooden clubs. He developed a process for preserving and coating wood. He has also made major contributions to the research of golf shaft performance, culminating with the development of a procedure to select the optimum shaft for any player's demands. With twenty years of experience in the club industry, Shaun provides a unique understanding of both clubmaking and the golf swing which is rare in the industry today.

John Wheatley is no ordinary clubmaker. A precision engineer by profession, he has long been fascinated by the game and the equipment it is played with. John founded a clubmaking business, repairing and building persimmon clubs. This small business provided a repair service to 85 country clubs throughout New England.
John represented Apollo Golf on the PGA Tour, Senior PGA Tour, LPGA Tour and European Tour and was appointed their National Spokesperson in 1992.

In 1994 John found the final piece necessary to complete a 25 year research into the playing of golf, the S.M.T. Training System. With a systematic means of measuring the swing, he now had a method of working with a player so that the player could understand what to do and how to improve. Video replay provides instant feedback. For the past two years John's records indicate a general player improvement of 15 - 20% after a five lesson package.

Among the pros John has worked with are Gene Sarazen, Dale Douglas, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Peter Thompson, Ben Crenshaw, Craig Parry, Bernhard Langer, Dave Barr, Scott Simpson, Gay Brewer, Bruce Crampton, Jim Dent, John Brodie, Gary Player, Tom Lehman, Karen Davies, Tina Tombs, Patty Jordan, and Betsy King.
